DIY: Tassel Earrings and Necklace

Do you still remember my mini tassel garland? While sitting there and wrapping the embroidery thread around the fork over and over again, another idea came to my mind. And voilá, the idea to create my own little “tassel jewellery line” was born!

I had already bought more colours than I needed for the garland, so I decided to get a simple gold necklace and a couple of earring hooks from my local craft store. I was a little too enthusiastic about creating those little tassels, so I ended up with a necklace and, well, three pairs of earrings…

What you need

  • embroidery thread
  • fork
  • scissors
  • needle
  • thin chain necklace
  • earring hooks
  • small rings

How to make mini tassels

Step 1: Place a piece of embroidery thread between the first and the second tine of your fork

Step 2: Starting at the bottom tine, wrap the thread around the fork (the more you use, the thicker the tassel gets) and cut if off

Step 3: Tie a loose double knot in the strand from step 1

Step 4: Wrap a new piece of thread around your tassel between the first and the second tine and tie a tight knot

Step 5: Slide the tassel off your fork. To hide the the loose ends from step 4, take a needle, pull them through underneath the knot and cut them off

Step 6: Cut the loops and trim off the ends

Step 7: Repeat until you have as many tassels as you want

For the earrings

Tie each of the tassels to one of the small rings and attach them to the earring hooks.

For the necklace

After tying the tassels to their rings and threading them onto the necklace, I simply added some more rings to create a little more space between the tassels.

I think they would also make a cute DIY gift, what do you think?
