This strange week between Christmas an New Year’s Eve always makes me feel a little uneasy and restless. It’s a time of retrospection, a time to re-evaluate, to set goals and to make plans for the upcoming year. I’m not particularly fond of making too many or unrealistic New Year’s resolutions, but I do like to set a couple of relatively fail-safe intentions for the year to come.
30 Day Yoga Journey: True
As every year, my favourite yoga guru Adriene Mishler is kicking off the new year with a 30-day yoga journey on her YouTube channel “Yoga with Adriene”. “True” is a home yoga series that not only focusses on toning muscles and losing those extra pounds that we usually gain over the festive season, but also aims at establishing a deeper connection with yourself. I already participated in her past January programmes, “Revolution”and “Yoga Camp”, and I’m really excited for what she has planned this year. You can click here for more information about True.
Ever since I was a child, I always loved to draw. In kindergarten and still in primary school, I mass-produced watercolour paintings, doodles and sketches. When I left school and went to university, I somehow lost interest and stopped. In the past year however, I found so many talented and inspiring artists and illustrators on Instagram and Twitter that I managed to overcome my self-doubt and started drawing again. I bought a new set of watercolours, participated in Inktober and produced a couple of mediocre doodles and paintings. In 2018, I definitely want to continue drawing, it is just so soothing and relaxing!
In the past year, I have often found it difficult to find time to read every day. I usually try to read for at least 30 minutes in bed at night, but often don’t manage to actually do so. In 2018, I want to improve my evening time management, spend less time on social media and create more and regular time to read. I’m also thinking about subscribing to a monthly book subscription box to keep myself motivated.
Connect to Nature
In the last couple of years, I’ve often felt like I was missing out on really appreciating nature. Before realizing it, another year had passed without me consciously noticing the changing of seasons, the scent of wild flowers, tiny insects buzzing around…
Next year, I definitely want to spend more time outdoors, making day trips, taking pictures and simply appreciating everything around me. I also want to take better care of my little cacti family at home.
A bad habit of mine is reading too many news. I’m very interest in politics and world events, so I usually check my news apps several times a day. This regularly results in me getting angry, feeling frustrated and sometimes even anxious. I want to cut down my “news time” to a maximum of 10 minutes a day and delete all but two news apps from my phone. This will hopefully result in me worrying less about things I cannot change.
Make My Blog look More Professional
Comfykittea is a hobby of mine. In the past months however, I’ve never felt completely happy with my blog. I want it to look more professional and to finally find my niche. I’m also searching for online blogging courses that will help me improve my blogging skills. Perhaps I’ll even go self-hosted next year or start over somewhere else!
Let’s see what 2018 has in store for us! Do you have any plans or goals for the upcoming year?
Wishing you a very happy and wonderful New Year!
