Happy New Year everybody! I hope you had wonderful holidays and wish you all the best for 2018. The last weeks whizzed by in a flurry, so my favourites list is a bit shorter this month. I hope you enjoy it anyways 🙂
Muppets Christmas Carol
The same film as last year? The same film as every year! Yes, it’s a children’s film, but “The Muppets Christmas Carol” is just the most festive film ever, it really gets you into the Christmas spirit. The characters are lovable, the story is a literature classic and the songs are catchy. I know all the lines by heart – in English AND in German.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
After the disastrous prequel episodes, I was not expecting much after Disney had purchased the rights to Star Wars. You can imagine my reaction after seeing “The Force Awakens”, I was absolutely enthusiastic about this film. Wonderful storytelling, brilliant acting and our beloved cantina aliens!
Now on to “The Last Jedi”. I have to be honest: Although it was a very entertaining and visually impressive film, I left the cinema with mixed feelings. I don’t want to spoiler anyone, so I’m not going into details here, but I can tell you that I needed several days to come to terms with some of the plot twists. I definitely have to watch it again to see if I was right or just a little supercritical 🙂
Although we didn’t have a “white Christmas”, we did have a lot of snow this December, which made me really happy. I love watching the tiny flakes fall and cover everything in white silence and walking through a snowy forest, hearing the snow crunch under my boots. And let’s be honest, it just looks magical and so much more beautiful than the brown and grey that hides underneath.
As soon as the first snow falls, we usually set up a little bird feeder for our feathered friends outside. It helps them to survive the colder months and it’s just lovely and relaxing to watch them pick away at the nuts and seeds. Just recently, I read a newspaper article which said that the bird population in Germany had declined dramatically. All the more reason to add a couple more suet balls!
If you have been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a huge Christmas enthusiast. I love everything around Christmas, baking biscuits, visiting Christmas markets, meeting old friends that come home for the holiday, the lights, the smell, everything! I always try to make the most out of those precious weeks.
Mansions of Madness
This was my Christmas present to Julius! “Mansion of Madness” is a 1-5 player role-play board game inspired by the stories of H.P Lovecraft. We first discovered it on a game show in Zurich in October, and both Julius and I were immediately drawn to it. It comes with a well-designed app that guides you through a criminal investigation. It’s a very immersive game and the stories are quite creepy and fascinating. The basic game allows you to play through 4 scenarios, but there are already a couple of extensions available. If you don’t mind learning extensive rules and enjoy playing complex board games, then this game is for you!
Thanks for reading 🙂
