I’ve been brooding about this for almost a year now. It’s time to let you in on a little secret: I’m planning to move to Switzerland to live with my boyfriend. It’s out in the world!
As I already mentioned in previous blog posts, Julius and I have been maintaining a long-distance relationship for almost three years now. He usually visits me every weekend and we always try to spend our holidays together. It’s still working quite well, but you can probably imagine that after almost three years, we have grown tired of the situation.
It was a very difficult decision for me to make. I love my home and I love the region where I live. Southern Germany is covered with forests and dotted with old, medieval villages. And I know I’ll be missing Heidelberg, its romantic flair, the small alleys and the ornate sandstone buildings.
I’m a creature of habit. I don’t like change, especially when it involves me moving to another country. I love my comfort zone and I hate to get out of it. BUT…we’ve been delaying this decision for quite a while now and it was finally time to sit down and talk it through.
I’m halfway between “I’m so excited!” and “Oh no please, let’s think this over again”. There’s so much to organise and so much to do now! Writing job applications, searching for an apartment, cancelling contracts, making new ones…I have no idea where to start at the moment.
But I’m also incredibly happy to embark on this journey. Switzerland is a great country in so many ways – peaceful, small, stable and with breathtaking natural sceneries at every corner. Julius lives in north-western Switzerland, near Basel. Although Basel is a vibrant and diverse city, the countryside surrounding it is very rural, with lots of farm animals everywhere, rolling hills and beautiful forests. And the Swiss Alps are only an hour’s drive away! But most importantly, I’m looking forward to finally live with Julius. Home is where the heart is, they say. So let’s see what the future holds for me!
Please excuse me if I seem a little absent at the moment and don’t comment as much as I usually do. I’ll try my best to keep up with you all during this chaotic time.
Sorry for the rambly post, I’ll get back to my regular blogging schedule as soon as I can!
Thanks for reading 🙂
